Getting your dream job

I have changed my mind about what I wanted to do in life many many times. First I wanted to be a teacher, mostly because I wanted to inspire people but also because I loved learning (something that hasn't changed). Then I wanted to be a flutist, which made me spend 3 years in high school practicing for hours everyday, then I wanted to be an actor, a career I gave up quite quickly and in a desperate need to find something that I thought was achievable I wanted to study engineering or something similar because science did interest me. Well, to be honest that phase changed quickly when I discovered that being a producer and organising things was something I really enjoyed so I decided that I wanted to be a TV-producer, a dream that I was determined to achieve and therefore applied to film and tv production at university and even got in. But as you might have realised, even before I started university I had a mere thought of becoming a doctor ( a dream I haven't really buried yet ...

Reflections of a one year old graduate

A bit more than a year ago I was wearing a cape and a strange hat whilst celebrating the end of university. That was a day filled with excitement, pride and happiness. 3 years of hard work had finally come to an end. However, these feelings wear off quickly because the day after you wake up with the truth; you're unemployed. Due to the unsuccessful job hunt I decided to expand my horizon and do a Masters too, because more education should be able to get me a job no? Well it kind of did since I am not unemployed but the Masters made me realise many things about my previous degree. First of all I came to understand that it doesn't matter how well you do in University if you don't actually go out that and get the experience. Everyone can pass an exam but not everyone can do something that affects other people. I've always had the ambition of making the world a better place and the only way to do this is to actually make the first move and attempt to influence others. If I...

Why your achievements only applies to you

Everyone wants to achieve things in life. Some people want a career, some want  a family and some want to beat the boss in the latest computer game. Regardless what you are doing you are constantly trying to achieve something. We often compare each other's achievements and decide whether someone is successful or not depending on what they've done in their lives but what we don't take into consideration is that everyone has different lives which means that some people will be able to achieve something easier than someone else and that makes this whole system wrong. My last few months have been a living hell, at least in my opinion. I've suffered from depression and even though it's not the first time, this time has been the worst. However, even though I still have depression I'm starting to feel that I'm not suffering from it anymore, it's simply a part of my life that will make me stronger. But why does this make my achievements different from others? W...

Degree - check

A little less than 3 years ago a girl in her late teens packed her bags and went on a plane to Liverpool. With 2 full suitcases, her mum by her side and expectations about the future she was ready to start the last journey of her education: She was going to University. That girl was me. Now I am sitting here in a city that I now call home with my last assignments handed in, my last exams written and no lectures to go to. For many people that might seem like a relief or even a blessing sent from heaven. I see it as a pit stop in my life and I can't wait to refuel and keep on going with the race because at the moment I am just in stagnation without reason to be stuck. I finished university two weeks ago but it didn't hit me until now. I was too busy getting caught up with the issues of my life that I kind of completely forgot the fact that after 15 years of education I could finally stand up and say proudly: I've finished my degree. Yes, I haven't got my results yet but...
