Olympics started just a couple of days ago which is really exciting especially this year when I've been a bit more involved with what is going on. I am doing an internship which involved working with the petition about having one minute of silence for the 11 men that were murdered during the Munich Olympics 1972. This cause became a big topic and created a big discussion about if it's right to hold a minute of silence or if it is too political. The IOC said no to the minute of silence which created a even bigger discussion. Shouldn't the IOC honour their athletes that were murdered?
Personally I think they should, just for the fact that we need to show the world that we are not accepting terror and whoever the people are that get murdered we should remember them for what they were; athletes that were competing in the biggest sports event in the world.
Now-a-days most events in the world become politcal and every single thing they do is considered to be political. The Eurovision becomes a way to vote for the countries you want to keep peace with and the Olympics becomes a question about money and rivelry.
Sports is suppose to be fun and over borders. It shouldn't matter what country you come from, you might still be the best athlete in the world and shouldn't be punished because your country might not be the most peaceful country in the world. Sports shouldn't be affected by politicians.
Another thing that changes the sport is money. It's not free to compete in the Olympics and therefore some people qualify but won't be able to afford to go to the Olympics. If this competition is suppose to messure the best athletes in the world, how come only rich ones can come?
I am tired of hearing all about money and politics when I actually only want to watch the sports. Why can't we have one minute of silence to honour the athletes that were killed 40 years ago without thinking that it becomes political. We aren't taking anyone's side. We are simply showing the world that we do not tolerate terrorism.
Sports is people competing against each other, not countries. It is not a war and the world should let us enjoy the sports because that might keep us together instead of tearing us apart.
